Joseph D. Polin, born on July 27, 1941, in Springfield, KY, passed away on December 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, service, and love. A beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Joe's life was a testament to the power of showing up for those around him, both in his personal life and through his extensive public service. Joe dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement as a respected Police Officer and honorably served 7 years in the Army National Guard. His commitment to safety and community set a powerful example and made a lasting impact. Known for his warm demeanor paired with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, Joe brought lightness and laughter to many, even in the most challenging times.
Joe is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Sara Margaret Ballard Polin and their three children, Shannon McCullough, Rick Polin (Samantha), and Jamie Polin (Stefanie). Joe was a beloved Poppy to 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication. Joe and Sara Margaret’s union was a testament to enduring love, commitment, and devotion.
Preceded in death by his brother Bill Polin (Dodie), sister Susan Taylor (Steve), his firstborn Joseph William Polin, and his grandson Joseph Polin, Joe's memory will continue to be cherished by his sister Jane Leake and all who knew him.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate Joe's remarkable journey—a life well-lived, marked by unwavering commitment and deep compassion. His legacy will continue to inspire, and he will be deeply missed.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11th, beginning at 9 AM at St. James Catholic Church, located at 307 W Dixie Ave, Elizabethtown, KY 42701. The funeral Mass will promptly follow the visitation at 11:00 AM. After the service, please join us for a reception where a meal will be served, allowing friends and family to gather, share memories, and celebrate Joe's life.
