He was a native of Louisville and retired from Jeffereson County Public Schools as a security supervisor in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harold Roden, Sr. and Dorothy Gearlds Roden; his mother-in-law, Judith Asbury; and his sister-in-law, Donna Thompson Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Thompson Roden; two sons, Gary (Kim) Love and Shawn (Melissa) Love all of Louisville; three daughters, Tara Love of Louisville, April (John) Roden of Cecilia, and Melissa (Troy) Roden of Louisville; two brothers, Edward "Eddie" (Anita) Hollandsworth of Brownsville, Kentucky, and Rick Ripley of New Albany, Indiana; two sisters, Betty Vincent and Shirley Hancock both of Louisville; father-in-law, John Edward (Rita) Thompson of Louisville; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and continues after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
