He was born on February 3, 1924 in New Haven, Kentucky where he was raised by his parents, John B. and Margaret Jane Redmond. He had three sisters, Rhoda Holbert, Mayme Foote and Florence Redmond.
After graduating from Larue County High School, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Alaska during World War II. Upon completing his tour of duty, he returned to Kentucky to marry his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Mary Eva Langley, on Oct. 19, 1946. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past year.
He was employed by the Federal Government's Bureau of Firearms, Alcohol and Tobacco Taxes as an inspector and worked for the agency until his retirement.
Mary Eva and Benny are the proud parents of five children, Carolyn Jones(Chuck), Linda Wilson(Charley), John M. Redmond(Linda), Jim Redmond(Katherine), and Barbara Hammonds(David). In addition they have eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Benny was an active member of First Christian Church in Elizabethtown for over 65 years and participated in its growth as a small church on the Dixie to its buildings on Mulberry and the current facility. In addition, he devoted much of his time and energy as a caregiver to family and friends.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Kiger, Bro. Doug Mitchell and Rev. Katherine Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Boston Christian Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
