He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; two sons, Gregory (Laura) and Christopher; one granddaughter, (Gemma) Willow; two sisters, Joyce Rothenburger of Cleveland, Ohio and Kathy Glew of DeWitt, Michigan; several nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, three aunts, 42 first cousins, and was close to the Hensley family: Heather, Madison, and Liam.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gailen Walter and Helen Kathryn (Brodbeck) Miske.
His lifelong career with Enprotech Mechanical (Industrial Welding) began three days after he graduated from Everett High School in Lansing, Michigan. He became a skilled mechanical engineer in the repairing of large machinery presses for the stamping out of parts for such items as automobile and appliances. The company created a second plant in Elizabethtown in the 1980’s and it was then that Gerry moved his family to Kentucky. In two instances when Enprotech closed its doors, he worked temporarily at Hancock Mechanical in Louisville, Ky. and the Dana Corporation in Elizabethtown, Ky.
His skills as a mechanic meant that he could repair almost anything with an engine: cars, lawnmowers, chain saws, motorcycles, leaf blowers, even boats. He was also talented at creating inventive home repairs, often out MacGyering the TV character, MacGyver. Influenced by his own father’s accomplishments in woodworking, Gerry spent many years creating wood carvings, giving them away as gifts and tokens of appreciation to family and friends.
He will be remembered fondly for his congeniality and sense of humor; his great enjoyment riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle; and the delight he took in his two sons.
