He was a native of Nashville, TN, received his Bachelors Degree from Tennessee Tech, his Masters degree from George Peabody College and Rank I from Western Kentucky University. He retired after 33 years from Fort Knox Schools. He taught 5th grade, was principal at MacDonald Middle School and principal at Fort Knox High School. After retirement, he volunteered with AARP teaching driver safety, went on mission trips to Russia, Poland and Honduras and was a volunteer at Kentucky Center for the Arts, where he described plays for visually impaired patrons. He loved traveling, visiting all 50 states and all continents except Antarctica. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Cecilia Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Josephine Donelson Meyer and a sister, Katherine Wood.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Judy Dilday Meyer; one son, Dr. Chip (Sonya) Meyer of Madison, GA; one grandson, Dylan Meyer of Athens, GA; three nieces, Kathy and Danielle Wood and Amy Jarrell.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cecilia Baptist Church with Pastor Donnie Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cecilia Baptist Church.
