He was born at his home place in Sonora and was a member of White Mills Christian Church. He retired from auctioneering for Crain Auction Company to help his brother, Truman, at the car lot. He loved to spend time outside, whether it be mowing the lawn or sitting on his porch to watch the birds and admire his rose bushes. He loved all animals, but most of all his dogs Niko, Bud, and Sugar. He was an avid Louisville basketball fan and when they were not playing you would find him on either the cowboy or cooking channels. Despite being nosy and keeping tabs on the neighborhood, he was not very fond of long phone conversations, and would usually last about 30 seconds or less.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Katherine Strader; siblings, Ruel Stader, Gladys Lucas, Harold Strader, and Jimmy Strader.
He is survived by wife of 25 years, Terry Stratton; daughter, Pam (Charles) Nall; step-daughter, Stephanie (Mark) Atkins; grandchildren, Tyler (Carley) Nall, Eddy Nall, Gavin Nall, Katherine Nall, Alexis (Jacob) Bell, and Brooke (Brian) Smith; great- grandchildren, Gage Myers, Owen Nall, Laynie Nall, Lilly Nall, Wyatt Henderson, and Kash Nall; siblings, Bert (Jack) Puckett, Milton (Donna) Strader, Truman (Mary Lou) Strader, and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
