William E. Wood Jr, 85 went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Center for Compassionate Care Hospice of El Paso. He was born on March 20, 1929 in El Paso, Texas. He grew up in Kern Place where he attended Dudley School, El Paso High School, Texas College of Mines (UTEP) and the University of Texas at Austin Law School.
He started his career working for Reynolds Electric and was stationed in Mercury, Nevada where he witnessed over fifteen atomic bomb tests. He also worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Company and Basil Smith Engineering. In 1959, Billy founded his own real estate brokerage and development company. He was very active in the residential and commercial real estate business in El Paso and worked very closely with Safeway Stores in El Paso, Texas and the surrounding areas. He was especially proud of his involvement in the implementation of the Chamizal Treaty between the United States and Mexico.
Billy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a loyal friend. He was preceded in death by Carmen Louise Loewenstein, his loving wife of fifty three years who passed away five months ago in August 2014, his parents William Edward Wood Sr. and Grace Inge Wood, and his three sisters Betty Ann Bowen, Virginia Musick and Dolly Lux. He is survived by his brother Charles Wood of Oklahoma City and Patsy Henry of Austin, Texas. He was an inspirational and amazing father to his three children; George Lowen (Ruthie) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer Veale (James) of El Paso, Texas, and Billy Wood (Christine) of Denver, Colorado. He leaves a loving legacy to his eight grandchildren Mary Louise Froissard, Ralph Lowen, James Veale Jr., Kara Harper, Daniel Veale, Nicole Veale, Lauren Wood and Katherine Wood, along with twelve great-children. The family would especially like to thank Jennifer and James Veale for their love and care of our father, as well as the wonderful staff at the Regency and Monte Vista.
Friday January 23, 2015 Visitation from 6 pm- 8pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Doniphan with Vigil Service to be held at 7:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home- Doniphan. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00am at Saint Matthews Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset, El Paso, Texas 79922. Members of the family will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Igoe, Russell Waterhouse, Art Gorman and Gordon Ritchie. Donations may be made to Hospice of El Paso and El Paso Humane Society. Services entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan, El Paso, Texas 79932. We are so proud of you Dad, will miss you dearly and want to thank you for being such a rock in our lives.
