Warren E. Brown

Lieutenant Colonel Warren E Brown, US Army, Retired, age 89, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 in El Paso, Texas. Born on October 5, 1931, Warren was the third of eight children born to Sybil and Louise (Jackson) Brown of London, West Virginia.

Following high school, Warren enrolled at Hampton Institute. Upon graduation in 1954, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Warren married his college sweetheart, Laura Page, in 1955.

Warren’s military career took him and his family both stateside and abroad. Warren served in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He received numerous commendations during his service. Including the Bronze and Silver Stars with Clusters, and a Purple Heart. After 20 years of active duty, Warren retired from the Army and settled in El Paso, Texas.

Warren was far from through working after retiring from the military. He dedicated the next 40 plus years to helping people. He returned to school and earned a Master’s degree in Counseling at UTEP. He also received a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas. He received a Licensed Professional Counselor certification. Warren utilized his education working at the El Paso Center for Children for over 23 years in various roles. Following his second retirement he continued his service working a Guardian Ad Litem and Mediator with the El Paso Court System. He also volunteered with the “Council On Accreditation” reviewing residential treatment centers across the United States, and military facilities abroad. Warren was committed to working with La Posada Home which serves women with children who are survivors of domestic violence. He was on the Board of Directors at La Posda for many years and served as president.

Warren was active civic and social organizations, among them Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Hampton University Alumni Association. Warren had a strong faith position and was a long-time member of St. Raphael’s parish. He was an avid supporter of UTEP Miner Athletics. He was a season ticket holder, and regularly attended UTEP basketball games.

Warren is survived by his brother Richard “Wickie” Brown, sister Shirley “Chunky” Brown-Curtis, daughters Ann Brown of Dallas, TX; Marie Brown Hayes of Oakland Park, FL; son Gregory Brown of El Paso, TX; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his wife Laura Mae Brown, his parents, and brothers Lloyd Brown, Kenny Arlan Brown, Ronald “Stooche” Brown, Lawrence “Chickie” Brown: and sister Dorothy “Bunny” Brown-Shannon-Knight.

11:30AM - 12:30PM at St. Raphael’s Church 2301 Zanzibar Rd, El Paso, TX 79925. A Private Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, TX 79906.
