Victor Salazar Sr., 77, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, and he was a loyal parishioner of St. Raphael Catholic Church. After graduating from El Paso Technical “Tech” High School in 1961, he attended the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. Victor was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1963 – 1965. In 1984, he co-founded Hillcrest Funeral Home with his brother Moises Salazar. His passion for baseball and football grew from his playing days as a kid and stayed with him during his coaching days of youth football and little league baseball. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 583 for over 30 years. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Lino and Vicenta Salazar; sister, Irma Pantoja, and brothers, Francisco J. Salazar, Ramon Salazar and Moises Salazar. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Castro Salazar; daughter Yvonne “Bonnie” Salazar, sons Victor Salazar Jr. (wife Nancy) and Francisco “Kiko” Javier Salazar (wife Gina); grandchildren Andrea Yvonne Sarabia, Alyssa Gabrielle Fierro, Nicolas Paul Salazar, Christian Gabriel Salazar, Vincent Anthony Salazar, Dominic Castro Salazar, and Isabella Rose Salazar; great granddaughter Alexis Yvonne Ayala. Victor is also survived by his sisters Carmelita Gonzalez (Oscar), Lucia Ruedas, Cecilia Artalejo, Margarita Parga (Rudy), Patricia Burgos and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2018 from 5 pm to 9 pm with Rosary at 7 pm at St. Raphael Parish. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 9:30 am also at St. Raphael Parish. Pallbearers will be Victor R. Salazar, Ray Saenz, Jaime Rosales, Ruben Parga, Robert Pantoja Jr., Jose C. Bouche, Tony Beltran Jr., and Judge Gonzalo Garcia. The family would like to thank Dr. Esteban Quirarte, MD for his care and guidance, Daniel Flores of Amorican Home Healthcare and Norma Marquez of Su Casa Foster Home for their professionalism and compassion in Victor’s time of need. They also want to thank Hospice El Paso for their commitment to the preservation of comfort and dignity. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd.
