

It is with great sadness that the family of Velia M. Villa, announce her passing on Friday, March 24, 2017. Born in 1928 in El Paso, TX., to the late Pedro and Petra Martinez, she lived 88 years of life to the fullest through simple pleasures; gardening, solving word searches and jigsaw puzzles, chatting with friends and family, watching sports of all kinds, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Velia graduated from Bowie High School. Throughout her early and mid-life, she worked at the downtown JC Penney. She was highly regarded for being the first PTA president at South Loop Elementary School. Velia had also been an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #6388 for many years. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Salvador Roberto “Chava”; her son, Salvador and his wife Sylvia; and her four daughters, Carmen; Cecilia; Sylvia and husband Algie; and Leticia and husband Miguel. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Melina (Gabriel), William Edward (Aileen), Christina, Victor, Nancy, Carolyn, Yvonne, Diego, Naomi, Noah, and her thirteen great grandchildren all of whom have brought great joy to her life. Visitation: Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr. with Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass: Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home, El Paso, Texas.
