It is with great sadness we share the passing of our beloved father, Valente Aguilar, (better known as Ben), who departed from this world on September 23, 2024, at the age of 97. He was raised in the small town of Grandfalls, Tx. He was married to Terry Aguilar for 67 years at her passing in 2015.
He played tenor sax in the Aguilar Family Orchestra consisting of his brothers & sister, Marcy; playing Big Band and Mexican dance music in the Pecos, Monahans, Grandfalls, Texas area in the 1940’s. He loved Big Band music and instilled the love of that music to his children.
He was the meat market manager at Food Basket Grocery for 25 years and was affectionately known as “Benny the Butcher”. He later became owner of the store and changed the name to Val-Mart Supermarket, in El Paso. A few years later opened up Terry’s Pit BBQ also in El Paso.
He was a pillar of strength to family and friends, being there during their toughest times, lending an empathetic ear, offering temporary shelter to those going thru some of life’s challenges and transitions.
Valente Aguilar is survived by his children Linda Mummert (Dennis Mummert), John Aguilar (Lynn Aguilar), Bonnie Carter (Jerry Carter), Sylvia Sweat (Alree Sweat), Kitty Munn, Rick Aguilar & Sam Aguilar (Eileen Aguilar); sister: Marcy Bernard; 15 Grand children, 30 Great grandchildren and 11 Great great grandchildren. His absence leaves a void in our hearts. Lord, let perpetual light shine on Dad and may his soul, through your mercy, rest in peace.
We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply and will be missed.
