Stephen Alan Thompson, 70, of El Paso, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Steve, as he was known, was born on October 14, 1952 in Pontiac, Illinois to John Thompson of Bedford, New Hampshire and Mary Blake Thompson of Wooster, Ohio. In his own words “My mom and dad taught the same things. Work hard, be honest & trustworthy, do not lie, treat everyone with respect & dignity. Family is family…love each other.” When asked about what it was like becoming a father he said it was “the #1 thing in life. Your children are your everything. They bring joy and sorrow but so so much love always. They are the keepers of the light. Being a father means I fulfilled my purpose.” He described his perfect day as a “day with family…especially Diana.”
Steve is survived by his four daughters and their families; Claudia McAtee (Joseph), Maria Hines (Adam), Barbara Martinez (Eloy), and Stephanie Thompson (Brandon). As well as, granddaughter Isabella McAtee, grandson Marco Hines, brothers John Thompson, Jeffrey Thompson and Randy Thompson along with several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents John & Mary Thompson and his loving wife Diana Blanco Thompson of 39 years.
A celebration of life will be held in Steve’s honor on Monday, May 15th at Fort Bliss National Cemetery (5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, Texas 79906) at 1:00pm (MST).
