Soledad affectionately known as “Mom Chole” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as all who loved her. She was born in San Francisco Del Oro, Chihuahua, Mexico. As the oldest of seven children, she worked very hard and long hours, as a housemaid in El Paso to help support her mother, who was widowed at a young age, as well as to provide for her siblings. This changed when she met a handsome Puerto Rican Army soldier by the name of Basilio. They met at a nightclub in Juárez Mexico. They both were drawn together by their love of music and dance. It wasn’t too long after, they fell in love and married in May 1963, in El Paso, TX. The start of a growing family. She loved to travel, and as a military wife she had the opportunity to do so stateside and overseas. She loved it!! In 1975 Basilio retired from the Army and they settled in El Paso, because she had never forgotten her mother and siblings, and wanted to remain close. Soon the family grew even more. She was a devoted, loving and giving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew her. She was a grandmother to six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Julean, Kamden, Aydan, Brayson, Brooklyn, Mia, Londyn, Nyah, and Johao Romeo.
She loved the color teal, she loved dancing and listening to salsa music and absolutely loved Mariachi music. She always enjoyed a few Coronitas with lime and piña coladas especially while eating out at her favorite restaurant Andale.
What made her life complete was her family! She loved them with all her heart and soul and she loved intensely! “Mom Chole” was an amazing woman of courage and faith. She was a devout Catholic, a member of the Blue Army, loved God, and our Blessed Mother Mary, and she prayed the rosary daily. She went home in peace surrounded by her family. WE LOVE YOU FOREVER!
A very special thank you to the priests who prayed for and with her and took her the Eucharist, which meant so very much to her! A heartfelt thank you to her caretaker Rogelio. Thank you to Rocio and Alicia also especially on holidays for making memories that will be remembered. Thank you to Liz, Ray, Shayla and Andy and those of Enhabit who cared for her. Thank you to the special team of doctors and nurses at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, ER and ICU Department for the respect and care given to our mother.
