Our beloved mother, Socorro Muñoz Montes, 94, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2021. Socorro's long life allowed many the privilege of her presence and personality. Married for 74-years, she and her husband had six children, sadly losing one in infancy. Together they raised their five surviving children, who remained the center of their lives. She often compared her children to the five fingers on her hand, saying they were all different shapes and sizes, but she needed every one of them. She is survived by four of those five children she counted on well-manicured fingers. Sukie M. Garcia (Alfredo), Lupe M. Arellano (Hector), Lola Montes, and Chuy Montes. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and her two sisters, Maria de Jesus Zamora and Maria de Refugio Hernández. She is preceded in death by her loving "Viejo" Pete, infant son Pedro, and son Pete Montes (Julie).
Those who knew Socorro know she deeply loved God and her large family. Devoutly religious, her faith was the foundation of her life. Visits with her would most commonly end with her insistence that she offer you a blessing before leaving. So, to keep with tradition, we offer her the same blessing as we say goodbye one last time—Socorro, El Señor te bendiga y te guarda. Vuelve su rostro y te concede la paz. Jesus, Maria, y José te accompañe y te Ilene de bendiciones ahora y siempre. Amen.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you and will miss you always.
