

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great Great Grandfather, Serapio Reta Minjarez. He passed away peacefully in his home March 8, 2025 at the age of 96. Serapio was born in El Paso, Texas November 14, 1928 to Francisca Minjarez Reta and Francisco Reta. He was a hardworking and honest man who retired from the Sanitation Department with the City of El Paso and previously worked for many years at Hugh McMillan Pavement Construction Company.
He married the love of his life Leonor Simental on December 30, 1950. They had 12 children together, 6 boys, 6 girls of which three preceded him in eternal rest, Daughter Maria and Son Valentin passed in infancy, followed by his son Jose Alfredo Reta who entered eternal rest at age 63. Two Grandchildren also preceded him, Gerardo Estrada Jr. departed in his infancy, followed by Francisco Cortez at the age of 11.
Serapio is survived by his wife of 74 years Leonor Simental Reta, Children; Ida Esparza & Arturo Cortez, Octavio & Diana Reta, Francisco & Elouise Reta, Martha & Oscar Rodriguez, Jose Alfredo & Teresa Reta, Victor & Patsy Reta, Nellie Reta, Maria Lourdes Reta & Veronica Rodriguez, Maria Elena & Gerardo Estrada, Marco Antonio Reta & Ruben Gallardo.
Serapio was blessed with 19 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and two Great-Great Grandchildren.
Serapio was committed to his Catholic faith and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was passionate in praying the rosary daily with his wife. He loved music, and singing along to his favorite singer Antonio Aguilar.
Serapio was blessed with a large loving family. He was a very caring man, who will be greatly missed, but we will cherish the memories he left us, honor the lessons learned and forever laugh at the jokes he left us with. His spirit and prayers will live forever in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday March 18, 2025, at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N. Carolina El Paso, Tx 79915.
