Samuel will be remembered and cherished as a charismatic story teller and a loving husband and father. He was the patriarch of the extended family, and was an inspiration and mentor to each generation. He grew up in South El Paso and was a proud graduate of Bowie High School (Salutatorian of the Class of 1958). He was the first person in the family to graduate from college, attending New Mexico State University for his first year of college and then completing his Bachelor’s of Science Degree at Texas Western College, now UTEP.
He served in the Army National Guard for 5 years, while attending college and later while working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Oklahoma, Washington, California, Texas, and Alaska, he returned to El Paso in 1975 to work for the El Paso Natural Gas Company as a civil engineer. While with El Paso Natural Gas Company, he was honored by the Pacific Gas Association. In 1986, he received the Silver Medal Award, and in 1994, the Gold Medal Award for his significant and valuable contributions to the gas industry. Before retiring in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he worked for the City of San Antonio Public Works Department and headed a team in Stormwater Engineering.
After years of living in various states, Samuel returned to his roots and moved to his home town of El Paso. However, in less than a year our Good Lord called him to his final resting place. May the Lord welcome you with open arms, may you play among the stars, and shine brightly on all of us who love you so much.
