Ruth Felder, who often said she was “39 and holding”, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 14, 2015. She is survived by her husband of almost sixty-four years, Algie Anderson Felder and seven children: Cheryll Ann Felder, Algie Anderson Felder, Jr. Xavier Franklin Felder, Valerie Felder Hicks, Hubert Alonzo Felder, Benita Ruth Munoz and Carla Lorraine Felder. Born in Heiberger, Alabama to the late Alonzo and Irene McMurry, she was affectionately known as Biddy.
In May of 1947, she graduated from Lincoln High School. After High School, she attended Tennessee State University and later Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church – Grace Campus. At Grace, she was very active in the church up until her death. She volunteered in the Grace Food Bank, was a faithful member of the Grace Bell Choir and Choir.
While her children were growing up, she became actively involved in the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and Girl Scouts. The National Congress of Parents and Teachers bestowed an Honorary Life Membership on her in April of 1986 and she was awarded a Texas PTA life membership. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader for eight years. Her memberships also included serving as a Council Board Member for the Lower Valley YWCA, Heroines of Jericho and served as the Lower Valley Representative for Goals of El Paso. She also served as a volunteer at Valley View Middle School and Mission Valley for twenty-one years. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Crestview Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am Monday, June 22, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Ruth Felder to the Grace Day School (400 N. Carolina) or the Houchen Community Center Child Development Center (609 S.
