Ruben “Benny” Cordova, 81, was born on July 15, 1941, in El Paso, Texas to the late Antonio and Aurora Cordova. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960 where he played baseball as the team’s pitcher. Ruben joined the United States Army and served as a Military Police stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, Ruben became a firefighter in the El Paso Fire Department, where he proudly served for 26 years. Ruben also worked as a realtor in the El Paso area for many years.
Benny, as he was known by his family and friends, was a beautiful soul with a kind and gentle heart. He had a witty sense of humor and wonderful personality. Benny was always willing to offer a helping hand to others in need. He was loved and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Ruben passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023 at the age of 81 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Heleny of 54 years, his two daughters, Zenia (Sean) Ihorn and Xrisanthi (Jacob) Mowad, and four beloved granddaughters, Micaela, Madeline, Elyse, and Eleni. He is also survived by his brothers Antonio, Armando, and Arturo Cordova.
A visitation for Ruben will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central (3839 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79903) with a rosary at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church (3729 Hueco Ave., El Paso, Texas 79903), followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery (5200 Fred Wilson Ave., Fort Bliss, Texas 79906).
