Ronald Lee Martin died on January 18th, 2023, while listening to Josh Groban’s, You Raise Me Up. If ever a man knew how to show great timing and taste it was him. He is predeceased by his father, Robert Clay Martin, his mother, Lola Florine Martin, his twin brother, Robert Allen Martin, his baby sister, Ginny Martin, and his grandson, Dominic Bryan Martin. Ronald Martin’s survived by his wife of almost 60 years (that allowed him to catch her), Reba Ann Martin, his 3 children, Ronald Allen Martin and his wife, Cindy Martin, Randall Scott Martin and his wife, Gayla Martin, and his daughter, Dr. Rebecca Ann Martin, 5 grandchildren, Brittany Martin Haddad, Skylar, Hunter, Lance, and Jagger Martin. He was a graduate of Burges High School in 1961. Also, he graduated UTEP when it was Texas Western with a Metallurgical degree in engineering. He then helped with the family business and became the CEO of Martin Tire Co. Ronald Martin was infamous for his travel style. He took traveling companions to the best places. They got to experience the unsavory sides of town that most locals don’t get to see. As his son Randy liked to say, “Roll up the windows and lock the doors! Dad’s driving”. However, no one was ever hurt or damaged during these outings. Yet again, it must have been his great timing. His friends and family often likened him to Clark Griswold of the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. Ronald Lee Martin was a man that loved God.
He was a risk taker with unswerving faith. Ronald Martin loved sports. He liked to play golf like a Robin William’s skit, basketball like a tall man, football like an armchair enthusiast, boxing like butterfly with no sting of the bee, etc.… He loved the arts, the edible, the non-edible, the written word, music, and paintings. He saw evidence of God in these. This gave him the unique vision of why every person has some good in them. Ronald Lee Martin was a collector but not in the way people usually think of collectors. He collected amazing moments and truly beautiful people. All you must do is look at the people that love him. The Visitation will be at Evergreen East Funeral Home in the Chapel on January 25th from 5 to 8 pm.
