On May 7, 2017, Jesus, the Good Shepherd, lovingly embraced Roberto García, and carried him home to his eternal rest. He joins Imelda, his wife of 70 years, who preceded him in death as did one son, Dimas. Roberto also joins his mother Cruz, and his brothers David García, Felipe and Jesus Sarabia. One brother, Faustino Sarabia, remains to mourn his passing. Surviving children: Inez Mota (Rosalio Jr.,) Roberto Jr., Andrés, Ernestina Vásquez (Ricardo), Cecilia, Felipe, Edmundo, Nieves, Mónica, Alfredo, and Sofía. Born in Mexico in 1921, Roberto came to the United States, attended Vilas elementary and El Paso High school. He proudly served his adopted country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India theater. Roberto retired from ASARCO. His retirement was spent enjoying his home life with his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who also mourn his passing. Roberto was a longtime and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and a past member of the St. Jude Auxilary.
He will lovingly be remembered at a vigil and prayer service Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 6:00p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 8600 Winchester. A mass celebrating his life will be on Friday, May 12, at 10:00a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, followed by his burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
