Robert Borunda passed away December 25, 2017. He was born in Marfa, Texas and has been a resident of El Paso since 1952. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Beatrice Borunda; his daughter Vickie Borunda of Dallas, Texas; three sons Robert Borunda Jr. (Teri) of El Paso, David Borunda of Crowley, Texas, and Danny Borunda (Kathy) of Carrollton, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one sister Lucille Leyva. After graduating from Sul Ross State University in 1952, he started working for El Paso Independent School District as a Driver Education instructor. He earned his Master’s degree in education in 1956 from Texas Western College (now UTEP). Throughout the years he taught Driver Education in all the high schools in the El Paso area. The Driver Education program was transferred to Region XIX Education Service Center and he became Supervisor of Driver Education, retiring from Region XIX in 1987. Two years after retiring he became Supervisor of Driver Education at El Paso Community College and held this position until he retired for the second time at the age of 80 years old. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Scottsdale Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina.
