The son of Rudy and Cecilia Sambrano, Rick was born on March 9, 1985 and grew up in El Paso. At the age of 17, Rick enlisted in the Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sergeant. As part of this service, Rick received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Combat Life Savers, Warrior Leader. He was awarded Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal. After his military service, Rick obtained a degree in HVAC, he was a certified electrician; he also obtained his dental assistant certification. Most recently he was pursuing his Bachelors of Science in Health Care Management.
Rick is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Lucy Vasquez and his beloved Uncle Pete Madrid. Rick is survived by his children Elijah (Makayla), Ricardo, and Ethan Hernandez; his parents, Rudy and Cecilia Sambrano; his sisters Herlinda Hernandez and Melanie Sambrano. His loved ones will remember his quirky sense of humor, his quick wit and his insatiable desire to always learn something new.
A service honoring the life of Rick will be held on Wednesday February 22, 2023 at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 N. Zaragoza Rd, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 6:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church 131 S. Zaragoza Rd. There will be no burial following the funeral service.
