Rebecca Susan Miller was born on June 23, 1954 as Clamencia Santa Rocha in Bogata, Colombia. She was adopted in August 1954 by Emerson E. and Lula I. Miller. She lived in Bogota with her parents and her sister, Sharon, until 1957, then the family relocated to the United States for a brief stay before accepting a new assignment in Caracas, Venezuela. They returned home to El Paso, TX in 1963 where Rebecca attended Newman Elementary School and then Andress High School where she was the editor of the school paper.
Becky and Walter began dating in 1970 and were married on October 23, 1973. They enjoyed a three-year tour in Germany, and welcomed a daughter, Meghann Elizabeth, in 1983. In 1985, Walter and Becky welcomed a son, Cameron Earl Nicholas, and returned to Germany for a second tour. They came home to El Paso, TX in 1989 and celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Kellye Amanda (which almost occurred at Aspendale Baptist Encampment).
Becky was an active member of Northgate Baptist Church for many years. She sang in the church choir, planned almost every church event, and was a member of several committees. She was also a key volunteer at Bradley Elementary School, Nolan Richardson Middle School, H.E. Charles Middle School, and Jefferson/Silva Magnet High School where her children were students.
Becky joined First Baptist Church in 2003. She became an active member of the church choir and always enjoyed helping Julia with church events. She also served on several committees. Becky was a school teacher and served two private schools in El Paso for more than 28 years teaching preschool, 3rd, and 4th grade. She made an immeasurable impact on hundreds of children.
Becky's greatest joy arrived in March of 2018: her granddaughter, Emersyn Cherrise. Becky treasured every moment with Emersyn.
In May 2022, Becky was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. She fought a long, hard battle through the last year and on April 16, 2023 she stepped into heaven. She was surrounded by her family: her husband, Walter, daughter Meghann (Michael), granddaughter Emersyn, son, Cameron (Charise), and daughter Kellye.
The Townsend Family would like to thank Dr. Dominique Barnes and Spero Women’s Oncology, Dr. Sabrina Frierson, Dr. Juan Bacerra, and Hospice El Paso for the compassion and care they showed to Becky over the last 11 months.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, April 24, 2023 at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas 79904. Graveside service will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 10:30am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, followed by a Memorial service at 12:00pm at First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Becky’s honor may be made to El Paso Christian School.
