Raul Munoz Jr. known as “J.R.” a beloved Successful Business Owner and Entrepreneur was born on September 9, 1951 in El Paso, Texas, the son of Raul Muñoz Sr. and Dora Munoz. He resided in El Paso, Texas, however, he passed away peacefully alongside his two loving daughters on February 29, 2024 at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas after a courageous battle with his illness.
He was a strong man who never gave up, a true Warrior and a wonderful father and grandfather who was a huge inspiration to all of us. The gates of Heaven called him up to the Lord where he is pain free and we will continue the legacy he left all of us and pass down all the wisdom and lessons and wonderful and funny stories he left us with. He will be missed so much, but we all gained a guardian angel that will be with each and every one of us for the rest of our lives.
He was an admirable, loving dad, amazing grandpa, wonderful brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, friend, neighbor, Great Warrior and intelligent businessman. His survivors include: his two caring and proud daughters Rachel Munoz and partner Javier Medellin, Melissa Lerma and son in law Mario Lerma, mother of his two daughters, Elizabeth Munoz, two beautiful granddaughters Madison and Grace who he adored so much, younger brother Gilbert Munoz, older sister Judy Torres and three other siblings. He had numerous caring and loving personal and professional friendships.
J.R. was a very hardworking and ambitious man that led him to developing two current successful businesses: picture framing and auto body repair that will continue to grow and carry on by his daughter Melissa. In his younger days, he worked as a plant manager in Mexico and locally but he always enjoyed making his own fortune, he owned three local picture frame galleries in the past. He traveled to numerous cities all over the United States to grow and generate his business for picture framing, attending trade shows. His passion for antique cars and trucks led him to his current business of restoring antique cars not only locally but nationwide and an ongoing business of auto body repair locally as well as nationwide.
His accomplishments included: being recognized for the Hispanic Entrepreneurs for J.R. Moulding Co. founded in 1994 with revenue of 1.4 million in sales; recognized for Siglo Hispanic Magazine with famous American actor Edward James Olmos, September 2009; awarded and recognized for Outstanding Minority Small Business Entrepreneur for J.R. Moulding Co. Inc.; awarded for his contributions and support for Reach for the Star in 2000; awarded Fifth Annual World Custom Wheels Auto Show and Expo received first place class winner and awarded several other trophies for car show expos along the way. He also was a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
His hobbies included: attending car shows locally and in other locations like New Mexico, Arizona and California, hot rod restoration and cruising in his hot rods, listening to oldies and local bands, watching movies, enjoying family gatherings and dinners, getaway family trips, spending time with his daughters, granddaughters, son in law, brother and friends. In his younger days he liked playing baseball.
J.R. always took pride in whatever he did in life and accomplished it with brilliance. He was a great role model, achiever, smart, funny, patient, caring and loving father and grandfather who was always there for all of us and we will miss him tremendously.

A visitation for Raul will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a vigil service at 7:00 PM at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas 79936. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Saint Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills Blvd, El Paso, Texas 79936. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 East Montana, El Paso, Texas 79938.
