Rafael lived a life full of love, adventure, and in service to God and to those he knew. He graduated from El Paso High School in 1984 and was a proud member of the JROTC. He continued to serve his beloved community of La High for several years, as he assisted students in preparation for their drill meets. He was also a booster member for the El Paso High School band from 1993 to 1997.
After graduation, Rafael joined the United States ARMY and served as a member of the Airborne Division. He was always proud to be called a veteran of the armed forces.
Rafael had many hobbies and talents; he was never one to shy away from trying something new. After returning home from the ARMY, he pursued careers in the medical field, automotive industry, and computer informatics. However, his passion was with music. Anyone who would listen to his stories, knew that his first show was in 1979. He would brag about being the DJ at his mother’s baby shower “… I had the turntable on top of some milk crates…” And for 40+ years he played for several house parties, quinceañeras, weddings, birthdays, school events, church functions, at the roller derby, and many other events. His last shows were in September for his nephew’s first birthday party and in October for a fall festival at church. Serving God and those he loved by doing what he was most passionate about.
We would like to thank all those who were part Rafael’s life, family and friends who knew him and stood by him. Special thanks to Ricky and Walter who were there until the end. It was not blood, but your love for him, that made you brothers
We would like to thank the medical personnel at Sierra Medical Center, as they provided comfort not only to Rafael, but his family as well. We would also like to thank Jesus Delgado and his team at Funeraria Del Angel Central during these, his final arrangements.
And all of you who have walked with us as we embark on a new journey…
No es un adios, sino hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar.
