on November 16, 1947. He married Darlaine Richards on September 6, 1968, in Amarillo, Texas. He
served in United States Army for 21 years and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of
Maryland. He was a devoted husband and a proud dad and grandpa. He loved playing golf, flying
hobby planes, and spending time with his two dogs, Gizmo and Ziggy. He never knew a stranger and
could put a smile on anyone's face. He was a devoted servant of the Lord and a member of Sun City
Church.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father Bill Garrett, niece Carrie Carnahan, mother Willadena
Garrett, sister Kay Garrett, and sister Jennifer Carnahan. He is survived by his wife Darlaine Gibson,
daughter Kimberly Ortega and her husband Gus Ortega, daughter Tasha Hopper and her husband Rob
Hopper, and son Christopher Gibson. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Meaghan Ortega,
Samuel Ortega, Madison Hopper, Paige Hopper, Bobby Hopper, and Nesta Gibson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Martin Funeral Home-East in
El Paso, Texas. Services will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Brant Small will officiate. A
private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Ft. Bliss National Cemetary in
El Paso, Texas.
Pall Bearers will be Larry Quisenberry, Hank Greenberg, Trenton Richards, Christopher Gibson,Robert Hopper and Gus Ortega.
