Philip passed away suddenly on September 13, 2018. He is survived by his sister Fern Goldstein (Eric) and his brother Anthony (Patricia), as well as his niece, Carrie Lee Kenrick, nephews, Matthew and Jonathan Goldstein and Joseph Kenrick, as well as many good friends in El Paso and throughout the US.
Soon after he graduated from law school at Indiana University Philip relocated to El Paso and made it his home. He worked for over 20 years as a Public Defender for El Paso County and once remarked that he had devoted his life to keeping people out of jail. In that role he witnessed the good and the bad inherent in humanity but always talked about his work in enthusiastic terms.
After retiring he kept in touch with colleagues on a regular basis and continued to take a limited number of cases until a few months ago.
He had been ill for the past two years but was determined to live as full a life as possible. He had always enjoyed traveling and continued to do so up until May of this year.
His nieces and nephews remember him as always being interested in their lives as well as being generous to them.
He leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will miss his irascible sense of humor and his generous and compassionate nature.
