It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, & friend Perfecto S. Gutierrez at the age of 88. He was born in La Union, NM on April 18, 1933, to Pedro and Naudensia Gutierrez. He enlisted in the Army in 1953 and served in the Korean War until 1955 as a Corporal and electrician in the 1st Armour Division. After he return from the Korean War and returned to La Union he met his loving wife Maria Villalobos of 35 years and had four children. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church.
Perfecto was a great provider to his family as he was a Small Engines Repair Mechanic for Wes Kerns for many years and later opened up his own shop in Canutillo, Texas, what was famously known as C & R Small Engine Repair, where he built several friendships and took great pride in owning his shop. He welcomed anyone to his home and helped anyone in need. He loved his daily visits from many friends and also the weekly gatherings under the famous Pine Tree. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Perfecto is preceded in death by his loving wife Maria Gutierrez, Father Pedro Gutierrez, Mother Naudensia Gutierrez; Brothers Mel, Lorenzo, Pedro, Merced & Andres Gutierrez; Sisters Refugio Gutierrez & Mary Carrasco, Brother In Law Angel Villalobos Jr., and many dear friends he lost along the way.
Perfecto is survived by his loving children: Chris Gutierrez (Josie); Robert Gutierrez (Marie); Priscilla Lucero (Reyes Jr); RoseMarie Gutierrez (John); by his grandchildren: Jonathan Gutierrez, Nicole Lucero, Reyes Lucero III, Christopher Self, Marisa Dunn, Mark & Kevin Gutierrez. 12 Great Grandchildren; By his Brother-In-Law Isaac Villalobos; Sister-In-Law Francisca Gutierrez; Brothers Silverio & Theodoro Gutierrez; Sisters Clara Gomez & Cruz Villalobos and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to especially thank the staff at Sunny’s Living Facility for taking such great care of our father.
Visitation for Perfecto will be held on Wednesday, April 6th at Hillcrest Funeral Home (5054 Doniphan, El Paso, TX) from 4:00-8:00 PM, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Refuge (1320 Merchantile Ave., La Union, NM) at 10:00 am and he will be laid to rest at La Union Cemetery with Military Honors.
