Patrick Richard Handy, born January 28, 1946, passed away peacefully June 10, 2023 in El Paso, TX surrounded by family. Patrick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, a retired military veteran, and a long-serving member of El Paso's medical community.
Patrick was born in Gloversville, NY and grew up in Pittsfield, MA, graduating from St. Joseph's High School in 1963. Upon graduating, Patrick joined the U.S. Marine Corps and later transitioned to serve as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy. Patrick continued his service and education in the medical field graduating from Worcester College’s Nursing School in 1971 and Anesthesia School from Albany Medical School in 1975. Patrick's military career continued into the U.S. Air Force where he retired as Major in 1988. Following his military service, Patrick practiced anesthesia in Houston at Northwest Medical Center. His more than 25 years of anesthesia service in El Paso was provided across many of the city’s hospitals and surgical clinics.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia, their three sons, Sean, Steven and wife Audrey, and Michael and wife Michelle, grandchildren Mallory and Mark, brother-in-law Thomas Ruszala, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Jane Handy, his younger brother Roland, his sister-in-law Sharon Maher, and his in-laws Edward and Veronica Ruszala.
Funeral services include a wake on June 19 at Martin Funeral Home West from 5 - 8PM with Rosary at 6PM and a funeral Mass on June 20th at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 12:45PM with burial following at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
