Patricia Ann Riley

On June 19th, 2023, Patricia Ann Riley, a remarkable woman of adventure and compassion, passed away at the age of 82. Pat was born on June 24th, 1940, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Elaine and Robert Castle, a family that nurtured her sense of freedom and curiosity. As a spirited child, she reveled in the simple joys of playing in the fields around her house, fearlessly riding bikes and roller skating without the confines of helmets, knee pads, or elbow pads. Pat embodied the essence of a tomboy and approached life with boundless enthusiasm.

It was during her formative years that Pat encountered the love of her life, Bill Riley, in her Sophomore year of High School. She graduated from Tolman High School in 1958 and embarked on an extraordinary journey, marrying her high school sweetheart and commencing a lifelong adventure that spanned over 60 years.

Pat dedicated herself to supporting her family as a loving and skilled Army spouse and mother. With unwavering dedication, she masterfully organized and orchestrated the relocation of her family to numerous duty stations across the globe, surpassing 20 assignments. From Germany and Thailand to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Rhode Island, Florida, Virginia, Washington, Georgia, and Texas, Pat fearlessly embraced the nomadic lifestyle that military families endure.

While championing her family's well-being, Pat pursued her passion for healthcare and obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree. She expertly applied her skills in various professional and volunteer roles throughout her life. Her unwavering commitment to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) demonstrated her heartfelt devotion to securing benefits for injured service members. Pat's love for the Army extended beyond her immediate family, as she selflessly supported and uplifted other Army spouses in navigating the challenges of military life. She shared her time and talents with the Air Defense Artillery Association and Museum, cherishing the camaraderie she found among its members.

Pat's zest for life was further manifested in her love for travel, embracing new encounters and connections wherever she went. Her hobbies and passions were plentiful, including her mastery of doll making, her beloved dog and cat, and her unwavering commitment to her children and grandchildren. Active involvement in the El Paso community allowed her to forge meaningful connections and make a positive impact. She relished the company of dear friends and found great joy in the spirited games of bridge she played multiple times each week. Pat was also a cherished member of the Red Hat Society, celebrating life and sisterhood with her fellow members.

Pat leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her adoring children: David (wife Yvonne), Thomas (wife Kelly), Deborah (husband Wayne), and Paul (wife Elizabeth). In addition, she is remembered fondly by her ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched with tenderness and guidance.

We will celebrate the indomitable spirit that defined her life. Her adventurous nature, unwavering support for her family and the military community, and her ability to find joy in the simplest moments will forever inspire us. Pat's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, reminding us to embrace life's adventures with the same fearlessness and love she embodied.
