Oscar Valencia passed away on Wednesday to join his parents and brother. In 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served for 22 years. While serving, he was deployed overseas for Operation Desert Storm in 1990 for which he received a Bronze Star Medal. He also served the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer for 22 years. While we mourn, we must also cherish and celebrate his life. He was a kind, loving, and dedicated father who always sought to help those in need; never turning anyone away. Everyone that knew him well, will always remember his sense of humor and charming personality. These endearing qualities will always live on in our memories. He fought bravely against brain cancer, exceeding expectations and making us all laugh even during this difficult time. He was a true hero. Rest now Oscar, you are at peace. Oscar Valencia was preceded in death by his parents Leopoldo Valencia and Esperanza Valencia and brother Eduardo Valencia. Oscar is survived by his spouse of 38 years, Sylvia Valencia, his three children: Oscar Valencia, Jr., Daniel Valencia (Denisse Valencia) and Christian Valencia (Rosa Miranda), a grandchild, Edward Tyler Valencia and two step grandchildren, Michael and Damien Miranda.
