On December 14, 2014 Nick H. Cadena (Chito) was welcomed by our Heavenly Father into His kingdom of eternal peace and happiness. He is now reunited with his wife, Dolores, in heaven where they are enjoying each other's company for eternal life. Nick was born on February 6, 1924. He was the son of Nicholas Cadena and Jesucita Herrera. He resided in El Paso all his life, and passed away peacefully in his home at age 90 surrounded by his family. Nick was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Dolores Villanueva Cadena; brothers and sisters Rafael Cadena, Gus Cadena, Anita Benavidez, Gabriel Cadena, Maria Veloz, Josephina Cadena; and grandson Fernando Cadena Jr. He is survived by his daughter Irene Cadena (John Bodlien) and sons George (Julia), Fernando (Blanca), Daniel (Leticia), and Nick (Sheila); and 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Nick attended St. Ignatius Catholic School and served in the US Army Air Corps. He worked at A.B. Poe and the City of El Paso before being employed as a D.O.D. civilian at Ft. Bliss, TX. He retired as foreman of the auto and body paint shop after 28 years of federal service. Nick enjoyed restoring cars in his spare time. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, and enjoyed deer hunting. Nick had a wonderful sense of humor and always saw the glass as more than half full. He had a passion for dancing and danced his feet away until the last few years of his life. There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix. His two favorite mottos were: "Keep an eye on how you take it apart, and put it back together the same way." and "Shoot yourself" (in lieu of "Suite yourself"). The family would like the thank Envision Hospice for their great compassion and assistance in the final days of his life. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday December 17, 2014 at Martin Funeral Home Central with a 7:00 pm rosary. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Santo Nino De Atocha Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. -
