Myron Howard Nadel passed away in his home at age 83 in El Paso, TX on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He taught at several universities in the United States and in Norway, Australia, Israel and Lithuania. He was Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at El Paso from 1998 until his death. He was named Professor Emeritus in December 2022. Before moving to El Paso, he was Chair of the Theatre and Dance Department at Buffalo State College, Visiting Professor in Music Theatre at Carnegie Mellon University, and Founding Chair of the Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Bernice Nadel. He is survived by his wife, Jane Poss, son, Stephen Nadel, daughter-in-law, Fabiola Dennis, and grandchildren, Grant and Judy Nadel who live near Boston. He is also survived by his son Xuan Mai, daughter-in-law, Duy (Kym) Hoang, and grandchildren, Kimberly, Katherine, and Victor Mai who reside in Madison, AL.
Myron attended The Juilliard School in New York where he studied with some of the great names in dance including Antony Tudor, Jose Limon, Louis Horst, and Paul Draper. He never lost sight of the amazing opportunities afforded to him by attending Juilliard.
He was author of several textbooks including “The Dance Experience”, now in its Third Edition, and widely used in university dance programs throughout the country. While in El Paso, Myron performed with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the UTEP Dinner Theater, and the UTEP Opera. He was devoted to his rescued dogs and cats.
