Miguel V. Rojas passed away on November 29, 2022. He was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He had a difficult childhood since he did not have his mother or father. He did odd jobs (bicycle deliverer, jeweler, baker apprentice) to help feed himself at an early age. He joined the Mexican military at the age of 18. After his service ended, he moved to Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where he worked as a baker. In Juarez, Miguel met the love of his life, Maria Elena Villegas. Using a ring that he crafted himself, he proposed to her, and they were married on November 16, 1958, in Guadalajara. In the 1960s, Miguel and Maria Elena decided to emigrate to El Paso, Texas to provide their children with a better life than they had growing up. After receiving his residency and eventually his citizenship, he worked for El Paso Independent School district at Terrace Hills Middle School for close to 20 years before retiring. He was an extremely diligent worker and always provided for his family.
Miguel enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of Club America, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Even though when his teams would lose, he would say they were not worth watching anymore, he would continue to watch his 3 favorite teams. He devotedly attended mass until he was unable to do so, due to his illness, but continued to pray in his prayer room for the health and wellbeing of his entire family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing dominoes.
Miguel V. Rojas is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Elena Rojas and their 5 children: Maria Elena Gomez, Miguel “Mike” Rojas, Gabriela Carrillo, Carlos Rojas, and Jorge Rojas. All his children have had successful careers in education, special education, the United States Military Services, El Paso Police Department, federal employment, and architecture. He had 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson Erik I. Salazar, his mother, and his siblings. Miguel was loved dearly by all his family.
