Mercedes Gooch Macias

Mercedes Gooch Macias passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on Friday March 31, 2023. Mercedes was born in El. Paso, Texas on September 12, 1920 to the parents Babe Streeter Gooch and Carmen Provencio Gooch and lived here all her life. Mercedes was a student at El. Paso high school and took pride of her achievements in art and winning spelling bees. Mercedes found it rewarding to make their home what it was for her husband and children.

She is preceded in death by her husband Salvador Jesus Macias, brothers James and Samuel Gooch and her sister Aurora Gooch Arriola.

Mercedes is survived by sons Salvador L. Macias and wife Margarita Macias, Alejandro E. Macias and wife Cathy Macias, and daughter Carmen T. Macias and husband Juan Esqueda, her sister Anita Gooch Lara , and several nieces and nephews. Her joy was her family being a mother to three amazing children, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great great grand children Mateo Jesus Arocha and Jovie Elizabeth Yeager whom she was blessed to get to know and hold each and every one of them.

A visitation for Mercedes will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. A rosary will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 6:00 PM, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 9:30 AM at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church, 5649 Dailey St, El Paso, Texas 79905.
