Mary Jane Handley, 80, passed away peacefully on December 15th in Lakeway, TX. Mary Jane was born on August 25, 1940 in El Paso TX to Alfred Henry and Hazel Lockhart Witholder. She graduated from El Paso High School in 1958 where she played on the tennis team and went on to graduate from Texas Western College (now UTEP) in 1962 with a degree in Education. She started her career as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach at Burges High School where she met the love of her life, Doug Handley. The two fell madly for one another and were married in 1964. They were inseparable for 42 years enjoying their motorhome and many camping adventures until Doug’s passing in 2005. They had 2 children, Mark and Cindy. Mark has been married to Malinez Bustamante for 31 years and has 4 children; Sarah (Tanner), Scott (Hadley), Sage and Sloan. Cindy pre-deceased Mary Jane in 2014 and had one child, Aidan Urbina. Mary Jane lived in El Paso until 2016, when she moved to Dripping Springs, TX. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her grandchildren, perhaps it was because they could help her figure out her iPhone? She was best known for her kindness and generosity and would laugh often including laughing at herself! Her absence will be felt for many years to come, but we take solace knowing she has been reunited with her “Sweetie”, Doug and her daughter, Cindy.
