Martha Susanna Medina Squire (84) passed away October 3, 2022 in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by family. She was born August 11, 1938 to Valente Medina Sr. and Josephina Hernandez Medina in El Paso, TX. She and her brothers and sisters lived in a small house off Durazno Street in El Paso. She graduated from Jefferson High School and in her early 20s helped teach students English as she was fluent in both Spanish and English. She married the love of her life Max Squire on April 19, 1965. Together they had two children, Andrew and Susanna. She and Max were active with El Maida Shrine Temple, the Masonic Temple, and Eastern Star, where her greatest accomplishment was being named Worthy Matron and Max named Worthy Patron of the Rob Morris Daylight Chapter No 759 Order of the Eastern Star in 1988. She enjoyed sewing and created numerous costumes for Eastern Star events and for the grand children as well. She and Max enjoyed many vacations and cruises together visiting locations such as the Panama Canal and Hawaii. After Max’s passing, Martha was active at the Wellington Chew Senior Center where she made many friends and participated in dance activities. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso until her health prompted moving her in with her son in Las Cruces, NM.
Survivors include Andrew (Cynthia) Squire and their children Amber (Tyler) Jackson and Tim (Kelsie Boswell) Squire all of Las Cruces, NM; Susanna (Bill) Clutts and their children Bill Jr (Beth) Clutts all of Eddyville, IL and Nikki (Benny) Gamble of Paducah, KY; and four great grandchildren: Adam, Ethan, and Ruthie Clutts and Tristan Jackson. She is also survived by her brothers Gilbert (Natalie Melon) and Conrad (Dena) Medina, and many nephews and nieces to include Mary (Jose Luis) Arteta of San Dimas, CA.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years Max Squire, her parents, brothers Lupe, Miguel, Valente Jr. and Juan Medina, and sisters Isabelle “Chavela” Medina, and Alexandra “Alex” Reyes.
Services will be at the Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer St in El Paso on October 13th. Visitation will start at 9 am with funeral services starting at 12:30. Graveside services will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery starting at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s society in her honor.
