Mom was born in El Paso, Texas to Jose and Soledad Burciaga. She attended Bowie High School and graduated from Lydia Patterson Institute. She was a homemaker until all her children graduated from high school. She was then employed at Houchen Methodist Community Center, where she taught sewing for 5 years.
She was a member of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Women group for many years. In her later years she attended St. Clement Anglican Church. Her favorite hobby was sewing. Her favorite pass time was taking care of her home and watching sports especially baseball.
Mom will be remembered by her grandchildren and nephew who spent many fun days with her. She is survived by her children, Edna Ruth Ogaz (Paul); Wilma Torgeson; William Sanchez (Linda); and Jimmy Sanchez, 9 grandchildren: Regina Martinez; Valerie Phillips; James Smart; Kelly Sanchez; Kerrie Sanchez; Joanna Windrose; and Avry and Robyn Perez Sanchez, and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. She has one surviving brother-in-law, Ramon Sanchez.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jose and Soledad Burciaga, her husband, Willie Sanchez and her siblings Estella Ibarra, Ernesto Burciaga, Carmen Burciaga, Mary Fresquez, Jose Hector Burciaga, Horacio Burciaga, and Alfonso Burciaga.
Her memorial service was held at St. Clements Anglican Church on March 24, 2022 and was officiated by Father William Cobb. Debra Sanchez sang 2 of Mom’s favorite hymns and she was accompanied by Father Rick also of St. Clements.
Interment at Fort Bliss Cemetery will be held later.
