Mark was born on September 25, 1958, son of the late Ramiro and Esperanza Alvarado. He is survived by his son, Wesley Antonio Alvarado and daughter-in-law, Chelsea Alvarado; brothers and their spouses, Ray and Karen Alvarado, Tony and Brenda Alvarado, Andrew and Carol Alvarado, Phillip Alvarado and Phil Laden; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark earned Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law.
Over a legal career spanning more than 35 years, Mark made a meaningful impact through his work. He had successful trial experience, appeared before numerous state and federal agencies, and was honored to be appointed by Governor Ann Richards as the first Director of the Office of Public Interest Counsel for the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission. His dedication to the law extended to education, where he served as an Adjunct Professor of Torts for the University of Texas Legal Assistant Program and frequently presented at environmental legal conferences across Texas.
Outside the courtroom, Mark was a talented and passionate artist, creating vivid paintings and intricate drawings in a variety of mediums. His creativity extended into his love for sports and the outdoors — he enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, motorcycling, and long walks.
But above all, Mark’s greatest joy in life was being a father to his beloved son, Wes. The two shared a close bond built on their mutual love of sports, travel, fine dining, music, and a shared sense of humor that filled their time together with laughter.
Mark’s life was one of purpose, creativity, and deep love. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
