Marjory “Sue” Cummins, 94, passed away in El Paso, Texas on October 27, 2019. Born in Opelousas, Louisiana, she was the second child of Frederick Samuel Guynn and Sue Clarice McQueen. Marjory attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) where she met her husband to be, Ray William “Bill” Cummins, who was there as part of the V-12 program during World War II. Graduating in 1945, Marjory then took a job in Houston, Texas with Humble Oil, now Exxon.
After Bill returned from the Marine Corps and resumed his studies at Rice Institute, he and Marjory reconnected. They married on July 12, 1947 in Opelousas. The couple then moved to El Paso where Bill worked on his father’s horse and chicken farm and together they raised four children. Bill preceded Marjory in death passing away in 1999. Surviving Marjory are children; Ray William “Bill” Cummins II and wife Andrea, David Guynn Cummins and wife Colleen, Arthur Erwin Cummins and wife Yuko and Carol Lynn Leeah and husband Gary; 12 grandchildren; Ray William “Billy Ray” Cummins III and wife DeAnn, Christopher Scott Cummins and wife Alexandra, Desiree Taylor and husband Louis, Brian David Cummins and wife Sara, Scot Matthew Cummins and wife Leah, Kelly Marie Wilfong and husband Jon, Kimberly Nicole Cummins, Sean Takai Cummins, Emi Guynn Cummins, Ray Takuro Cummins, Jon Austin Leeah and Joel Stephen Leeah; two step-grandildren, Nicolette Leeah and Christopher James Leeah;12 great grandchildren and brother Robert Leslie Guynn.
At age 50 and when almost an empty nester; Marjory went back to work, joining the staff of the El Paso County Water Improvement District 1. She maintained the database of the water rights lands in the district receiving surface water from the Rio Grande for the next 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Marjory enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and watching tennis and was a great lover of shrimp prepared in any way. She most enjoyed her children and grandchildren; participating in the PTA and attending many Cub Scout Den and Pack meetings, track meets, football, basketball, baseball and soccer games. Grace Chapel was a very important part of her life as she attended church there from the time she moved to El Paso until she could no longer negotiate getting in and out of the car.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 3rd at Grace Chapel, 7601 Wilcox Dr., El Paso, TX. with a reception to follow honoring Marjory’s life. For those wishing to honor her in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Southwest Bible Camp, c/o Grace Chapel.
