A great big thank you to all our family and friends that joined us for an evening of prayer. Rest in peace mom.  We love you and will miss you.Thanks for everything and for lending us your rosary and prayer book.

Mi Nana! 

Me: Ya llegue!
Grandma: Que bueno!!

Those were the words I would yell every time I walked in the door and you always yelled back. To be honest I still think it in my head when I get home. This picture was the last milestone you watched me complete before getting my first teaching job. You were there at my birth, my Baptism, my First Holy Communion, my Confirmation, my high school graduation, my college graduation and you were the first person I called when I got a job. 

Being the only granddaughter for 10 years allowed us to have a very strong relationship. I went to Crockett and you were always there to pick me up after school, but you always sent me back to look for my lunchbox or my jacket because I always lost it! You were always there to pick me up from the nurse’s office because we know how often I got sick! You taught me and took care of me when my parents were at work, and I still remember that one time it snowed in EP and you let me stay home and play in the snow! (Sorry mom if you didn’t know!) I loved being able to tell you I was going to “read” on the couch, and I took a nap instead, that became our code word for naps. I’m going to miss your egg sandwiches and the milkshakes. I’m going to miss my small pot of white menudo aka posole for Christmas because I wouldn’t eat the red one. Thank you for always picking and buying my Christmas outfits for as long as I can remember. You always helped me pick my outfits or told me what shoes looked best with my outfit, and I always had to take a jacket because you knew I would get cold. I am going to miss going to Walmart and you telling me not to talk to strangers, yet you talked to everyone in the store! We would always find you talking to some other person and people helping you get items off the shelves. Thank you for all the adventures.

You better cheer on Aaron Rodgers with me every Sunday when football season starts up again. I guess you can cheer on the Cowboys and Mahomes too, but I know you bleed a little green and yellow with me and Chayse.

I love you and miss you dearly mi nana! I know you will continue to watch out for me from heaven and send your love and support always. I will help take care of Frances and Sombrita for you, they miss you too.

Dear Grandma,
I am not sure where to start Grandma. Having to say goodbye to you during a pandemic 400 miles away was not really what I had envisioned, nor what you deserved. But, if there’s one thing I knew was that no matter how far apart we were you always loved me, and you were my nana. There are just too many memories to talk about, so I’ll keep it short. Thank you for all the countless walks to and from Crockett Elementary School, making the best grill cheese sandwiches after school, and teaching me how important school was even when I argued to watch TV. Because of you and my parents, I persevered and graduated high school, college, and I am working on my Master’s degree. Thank you for taking care of me when I was sick or when my parents had to work late. Thank you for all the drives around El Paso listening to music (mostly Mexican), and just talking. Thank you for teaching me about making menudo. Your Christmas gifts were and will always be the best gifts ever. Grandma you were a strong woman and I am so grateful to have had you in my life.  You were truly a one of a kind. We laughed, cried, argued, and loved each other so much every day that I am truly blessed to have had you in my life for over 30 plus years. Your love and care for everyone will always be one thing I remember most. You used to say “ten cuidado” when someone would leave. It’s hard to say goodbye but I know you are at peace in heaven with grandpa and the rest of your family. I am going to miss you a lot, but you’re in my heart and my head keeping me in line. I will cherish all of our memories together and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you. Thank you for everything Grandma, I love you and miss you.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Rye (Robert), Dolores Inniss (Dean), and Gilbert Perez (Morayma), grandchildren, Andrew Gilbert Perez, Aaron Lee Rye, Jonathan Robert Rye (Samantha), Mary Elizabeth Rye, Michael Patrick Perez, Chayse Joseph Inniss, and Michelle Renee Perez, great grandsons, Tyler Xavier Rye and Zachary Elijah Rye, sisters, Aurora Avila, Rachel Avila, and Estella Escobar, and numerous nieces and nephews.
