Maria J. Moreno, lovingly known as Jessie and Mima, was born January 28, 1920 in El Paso, Texas and was called to be with our Lord on March 8, 2021 at 101 years of age. She was the matriarch and light of her family and will be greatly missed. Jessie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alejandro C. Moreno, and son, Alejandro Moreno, Jr. She is survived by her brothers, Manuel and Ezekiel Montanez; children, Hermelinda “Linda” Olson (Gary), Patricia Fisher, John Moreno (Kim Perugino), and Virginia Acosta (Donald); her eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Margaret, Alexander, Veronica, Jerome, Jennifer, Vanessa, Melissa, Jessica, Matthew, and Gabriel; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends from the Carolina Happiness Center who cherish and honor her memory.
She was fiercely devoted to her family, friends, community, and faith, praying the rosary every night. She loved life and took every opportunity she could to dance, sing, cook, and play slot machines. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved making others laugh.
The Rosary and visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on March 23, 2021 at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Drive, El Paso, Texas 79915. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, and to allow participation by those dear to her who cannot attend in person, the Rosary will be streamed via Facebook Live on the Hillcrest Funeral Home Facebook page.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on March 24, 2021 at St. Raphael Parish, 2301 Zanzibar Road, El Paso, Texas 79925, with limited capacity due to COVID restrictions. Interment to be held privately for immediate family only at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Andrew Olson, Alexander Olson, Jerome Fisher, Matthew Moreno, Gabriel Acosta, and Raymond Baeza. Honorary Pallbearers: John Moreno, Gary Olson, Don Acosta, and Robert Moreno.
