Maria Luisa (Licha) Mendoza, 90, a life long resident of El Paso, died Thursday, November 22, at home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a long struggle with cancer. She was born in El Paso, Texas in 1928, the only child of Antonia Gonzalez and Luis Padilla. She is survived by her children – Leonor Gonzalez, Antonio Padilla Piña, Rafael Padilla, and Victor Mendoza, and 15 grand children, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine Mendoza.
Licha, was known for her kind, generous and loving ways. Few things brought her more joy than family. Her bright humor and beautiful smile, welcomed everyone to her home cooked meals. She fulfilled her days knitting and sewing, making gifts for her loved ones. Licha was a devout Catholic and member of Santo Niño de Atocha parish.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5pm-9pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, with a vigil and rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10am at Santo Niño De Atocha Church, 201 South Clark Drive. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 South Zaragoza Road.
