MARIA CONSUELO GUARDIOLA, passed peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 17, 2018, surrounded by the love and care of her family. Consuelo was born on January 12, 1932, to Maria Aguirre and Gregorio Ibarra in Tepehuanes, Durango. She moved to Lordsburg, New Mexico in 1963. Consuelo was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking her children’s favorite dishes. Her children continue to struggle in the duplication of her signature dishes. Listening to music, especially Mariachi groups always brought out Consuelo’s best smiles. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers. One of her daughters could always be persuaded to take her to a favorite festival, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Family was her life. Consuelo passed on her curiosity for all aspects of life to her children. As a result all her children pursued some form of higher education.
Consuelo was a woman of faith. She was a member of the Catholic Church and attempted to live each day according to the Lord’s will. Even as her illness consumed her and her memory failed, her complete faith in our Heavenly Father never wavered.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her husband; Dulces Nombres Guardiola, her parents; Maria and Gregorio Ibarra, her siblings; Pedro Ibarra, Eleno Ibarra and Maclovia Peña. Consuelo is survived by her children; Maria Elena Padilla (Jorge), Pancho (Nadine), Rafael (Carmen), Margaret Alcaraz (George), Salvador (Doris), Maclovia, Hermelinda Dunagan (Paul), Josefina, Cecilia, Monica, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was an inspiration of strength, independence and determination. She is greatly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. at Evergreen East Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Evergreen Cemetery East.
