She was born in El Paso, Texas (Smelter town) to Marcelino and Marina Escobedo on October 17, 1027. She did not enter this world alone. With her was another little bundle of joy who was named Blanca who passed away January 15, 2011.
The cuatas were well known in Buena Vista, Smeltertown and Montoya. The cuatas never married nor had children of their own.
They were members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where they volunteered their services for many years.
They looked alike, they dressed alike and did everything together.
Tia Sookie, as we lovingly called her worked several years at Newberry's 5 & 10 store downtown El Paso for several years before becoming a full time caregiver to her parents and eventually for her sweet sister Tia Blanca.
The most rewarding experience she enjoyed along with Tia Blanca was working as a cook for the Clergy at Sacred Heart Church.
She was a true angel from the greatest generation. Our aunts Sookie and Blanca treated family as their own providing any assistance requested of them. She was kind, selfless, noble and compassionate. We feel fortunate to have had such a beautiful soul fill our lives with unforgettable memories. "Vaya con Dios, Tia Sookie".
Special appreciation to the staff of Franklin Heights Nursing Home for the care given to Tia Sookie.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MartinFuneralHomeWest.com for the Escobedo family.
