Maria Sofia (Colmenero) Castillo, died Monday, August 13, 2018. Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico on September 18, 1913, Maria peacefully passed on while resting at home. Having relocated to the United States with her family at age 7, Maria lived the majority of her 104 years in El Paso, Texas. A lifelong member of Guardian Angel Church, passionate luminary within the community and thriving entrepreneur, Maria and her husband established one of El Paso’s earliest tortilla businesses; La Tolteca Tortilla Factory, from which they eventually retired. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, husband Manuel M. Castillo and their son Enrique Castillo. She is survived by her children Antonietta Chavez (Fred,) Rene Castillo (Leticia,) Martha Castillo-Garcia, and Ruben Castillo. Maria is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Viewing will begin at 6pm-9pm on Friday, August 17th, at Funeraria del Angel Martin Central, 3839 Montana Avenue. Rosary directly following. Mass will be at 9am on Saturday, August 18th, at Guardian Angel Church, 3021 Frutas Avenue. Following mass, Maria will join her husband Manuel in rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
