Margaret “Peggy” Vogt Palafox, born in El Paso, Texas, on January 5, 1930, died at home surrounded by family on January 9, 2015. She was a life long resident of El Paso. Days before her death, she joyfully celebrated her 85th birthday with friends and loved ones and happily reminisced about a lifetime of fond memories. She graduated from Loretto Academy in 1948, followed by Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1951. In her nursing career that followed, she worked as a surgical nurse for a neurosurgeon then later scrubbed in with Drs. Breck, Basom and Leonard of the El Paso Orthopaedic Surgery Group. After marrying and starting a family, she dedicated herself to caring for her children and partnering with her husband, Mario Palafox, MD, to build an innovative orthopaedic clinic that provided compassionate care with a loving spirit. Together, she and Mario worked long hours integrating work and family life and proudly pursued and accomplished their dreams. In addition to her professional career, she also dedicated many hours of service to the El Paso community serving on the board of the El Paso Cancer Treatment Center, as well as volunteering with the El Paso County Medical Auxiliary, among others.
She greatly enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and extended boundless generosity, kindness, and nurturing to many others who were like family to her. She loved flowers, watching football games, home remodeling shows, and her favorite daytime soap opera. The world was a better place with Peggy in it.
