On Tuesday July 5, 2022, our Lord called our father home. Our father proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He spoke fondly of his job of driving Generals and other senior officers during his service as a Motor Transport Operator in the Army's Transportation Logistics Team while stationed in Korea as part of NATO-French. He and our mother were married for 69 years. He was a hard worker and always looked for something creative to do.
He loved working in the backyard and in his "cuartito." It was not unusual to visit and find that he rearranged the fencing. He could always be found in his cuartito rearranging things he collected or fixing something in there while listening to Mexican music on his radio. He was fond of speaking about his memories and activities at the ranch he grew up on. He adored his companion poodle Savannah. She and he rarely left each other's side and he could not bear to be away from her when he went out, so she usually went everywhere with him.
Our father is survived by his children and their spouses Virginia and Joe Ruiz, Arturo and Helen Portillo, Jorge and Maria Portillo, Veronica and Miguel Gomez, Salvador Portillo and Pablo Portillo. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Estela Portillo, his daughter Katherine Portillo, an his sons Antonio and Manuel Rodolfo Portillo.
We will truly miss him but take comfort that he is now with our Mother, Sister, Brothers, and our Lord.
Rest in Peace Dad
