Manuel Santiago Martinez, 93, passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Manuel (“Manny”) was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on July 25, 1922 and was a life-long resident of El Paso, Texas, member of the Catholic Church and proud member of the Serra Club. Having few years of formal education, he was a self-made man whose accomplishments were abundant. Manuel served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked through the ranks of several printing companies and ultimately achieved his dream of owning his own company, El Paso Litho Plate, which continues to thrive to this day. His strength, resolve and amazing sense of humor as well as his profound love of God and Family touched everyone who knew him. Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Maria Elena, whom he affectionately referred to as “Sunshine”. He is also survived by his children, Norma Sugawa (George), Adrian Martinez (Josie), Dr. Ruben Martinez, six grandchildren, Jason, Melanie, Clarisa, Rene, Alezandra, Alyssa, and five great grandchildren, Lucy, Carter, Milo, Amelia, and Zoe. He is also survived by his sister Elvira Rios. Manuel is preceded in death by his sons, Dr. Jaime Martinez and Eduardo Martinez, his parents and five sisters, and one brother. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass is Friday, November 6, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Christ the King Monastery of Perpetual Adoration, 145 North Cotton Street, El Paso, Texas. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Christ the King Monastery of Perpetual Adoration.
