family on the evening of December 20, 2017 at the impressive age of 105.
Doña Lygia was born in Cali, Colombia to Maria Luisa and Juan Bautista Muñoz
on November 19, 1912, the youngest of three sisters. She married Francisco Luis
Vanegas (Don Luis), the love of her life, and was blessed with two wonderful
children, Jaime and Angela. She came to El Paso to live with her daughter,
blessing family and friends with her love.
Doña Lygia lived life with joy and thanks for all God brought her way. She was
known for her warm caring nature, her wonderful hospitality, and most
importantly, her faith-filled and prayerful life. She dedicated herself to her family
and to praying for the well-being of her loved ones. She included amongst her best
friends St Francis de Assisi, la Virgen de Guadalupe and St John Paul II, to whom
she reached out for their intersession with prayer requests from family and friends.
Doña Lygia is survived by her two children, Jaime Vanegas and Angela Urrea; her
seven grandchildren: Dr. Luis H. Urrea II and wife Barbara of El Paso; Dr. Robert
Urrea and wife Patricia of El Paso; Dr. Rick Vanegas of Boston, MA; Lee
Vanderipe and husband Brian of Madison, AL; Alexandra Goff and husband
Matthew of Austin; Gina Vanegas of New York, NY; and Victoria Vanegas of
Boston, MA; and her eleven great grandchildren: Hunter, Katrianna, Cole, Nicolas,
Jaden, Christina, Angela Sofia, Jackson, Parker, Brian Michael, and Joshua.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at
Martin Funeral Home West, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at
Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:30 am.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley cemetery.
The family wishes to extend our most sincere thanks to all those who took care of
her at Good Samaritan White Acres and all the friends that shared their love.
